Inside the Shady Practices in the Bedding Industry
The war for your bed has created some shady practices that are confusing, misleading, or even downright deceptive.
We aim to be fully transparent in the production of our sheets. Our fabric and sheets are made in a factory with a 50 year track record, supplying five-star luxury hotels and luxury bedding brands. By cutting out the middleman, we can bring all the luxury, ease of use, and unique design to you at a fraction of the cost.
We also wanted to ensure we created a practical and unfussy line of bedding at a fair and accessible price.
We are so confident in our quality, luxury, and function that we guarantee you’ll love your sheets with a 100 Night Sleep Trial and FREE Returns.
Here’s just some of the most common shady practices we find:
- Inflated Thread Count. In the bedding industry, it is very well-known businesses artificially inflate thread count, most typically by using multi-ply threads. Be leary of any thread count above 600, but even be careful in general. One Bed thread counts are single-ply cotton for a true thread count.
- False Origin and False Organic Cotton Claims. We see this one more commonly than we would have hoped. Companies claim American-made, Egyptian, Organic cotton, etc, when the origin is questionable or patently false. As a consumer, it’s hard to verify these claims, but buyer beware of anything too good to be true. If a brand does not stand by the quality of their sheets with an ironclad guarantee and/or the price is very low, there’s a good chance it’s too good to be true.
- Harmful Chemicals. Companies may make claims they do not use harmful chemicals, but make sure they are backed up with the right certifications. Our fabric is Oeko-Tex certified, ensuring harmful chemicals are not used in production and environmentally safe practices.
- Trendy New Fabrics. We’ll start with a caveat: there are promising new fabrics and innovative technologies. It’s central part of One Bed’s mission to bring innovation to an often stale category, and we are constantly evaluating the best solutions. However, beware of any unsubstantiated or false claims to simple to present “innovative” solution. Do your homework and follow real science and real solutions.
Don’t get us wrong, there are products and companies that do not engage in these practices. If a company does not stand by their products 100% and are vague in their claims, follow your instincts!
